Completed application forms should be sent electronically to [email protected] no later than 9am on Friday 17 April 2026, with interviews to take place shortly thereafter. Early interviews may be arranged for candidates required to provide a full term's notice.

THE ART DEPARTMENT:

The Art department is housed within a well-resourced, purpose-built Art and Design Technology block. Three spacious classrooms and a gallery style corridor enable us to showcase the varied and creative artwork produced by our students. There is also a designated sixth form studio where our A level Art students are able to have their own workspace. We have a well stocked library of specialist books within the department. We encourage all pupils to work in a wide range of media and styles and have specialist facilities to enable ceramics, sculpture and printmaking (intaglio, relief and silk-screen) in addition to painting and drawing. The department is well stocked with a variety of art materials and has generous storage facilities.

One classroom is equipped with computers; there is an in-house printer/copier and a class set of graphics tablets enable Photoshop and other digital work. Staff are provided with a school Ipad and laptop, there are digital projectors in three of the rooms.

The Art department currently has three part-time teachers and an experienced and knowledgeable technician. We share a determination that students should enjoy our subject in addition to meeting their creative potential across all Key Stages. Art is taught to all pupils in years 7&8 in groups of around 16; similarly, for those who opt to study it in year 9. Fine Art is a popular option at GCSE usually resulting in two parallel groups with up to 16 students in each. Our numbers at A level result a single group in each year. The department also currently supports the teaching of KS2 Art in association with the Junior School.

To further enrich our classroom teaching we offer a number of extra-curricular activities including clubs and competitions, life drawing classes for examination groups and a number of trips and workshop opportunities for students of all ages.

The academic record of the department is strong with 100% pass rate in exams. Our GCSE results are excellent and our A-Level grades have been consistently high. In recent years a high proportion of our A level students have gone on to use their creative skills at university on courses such as Architecture.

THE ROLE:

  • Teaching Art at Key Stage 2-5 (at KS2 to Year 6)

  • Planning and preparing relevant material and activities to teach the classes allocated, according to the policies of the department(s) to which the teacher is accountable.

  • Setting and marking students’ work regularly and appropriately for the subject(s) taught in line with School and Departmental policy: recording marks, monitoring progress and writing reports as required.

  • Participating in the arrangements for preparing and assessing students’ work for public examinations.

  • Co-operating with colleagues in operating mark schemes, researching materials, participating in training and developing new courses.

  • Participating in the Staff Development Review Scheme and cooperating with the appraiser.

  • Ensuring subject knowledge and teaching skills are kept up-to-date. Being available at all reasonable times during the school day and during school holidays when necessary at prearranged times.

  • Covering for absent colleagues.

  • Sharing in the pastoral responsibility for all students in the School and especially for those in the teacher’s tutor, house or teaching group, liaising where appropriate with Tutors, Heads of Year and senior staff.

  • Maintaining good order and discipline among students, safeguarding their welfare, health and safety at all times when they are the responsibility of the School. Being familiar with the School and Departmental policies on child protection, discipline and health and safety.

  • Sharing in supervisory duties and general duties; upholding good standards of behaviour, dress and punctuality among students.

  • Ensuring, where appropriate, that work is well displayed in teaching rooms and a high standard of tidiness is maintained.

  • Attending Departmental Meetings and general Staff Meetings, and participating in smaller working groups as appropriate.

  • Attending Assemblies and, as often as is reasonable, other School and Departmental activities, events and trips, playing an active part in wider aspects of School life. Attending Parents’ Evenings, Prize givings and Open Days
