Science Teacher | Nottingham
The Opportunity
Are you a scientist with the ability to spark curiosity about the natural world? Can you transform abstract concepts—from the intricacies of cellular biology to the laws of thermodynamics—into "lightbulb moments" for your students?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and inquisitive Science Teacher to join a high-achieving faculty in Nottingham . As a historic hub of innovation—the birthplace of the MRI and a current leader in pharmaceutical research—Nottingham offers a prestigious environment for a Science specialist. We are looking for an educator who can lead rigorous practical investigations and inspire the next generation of pioneers in medicine, engineering, and environmental science.
Core Responsibilities
Pedagogical Excellence: Planning and delivering high-impact, enquiry-based lessons across KS3 and KS4 (Combined & Triple Science) , with opportunities to teach a specialist discipline at A-Level (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) .
Practical Leadership: Demonstrating and supervising safe, sophisticated laboratory experiments that bring theoretical models to life and develop students' technical proficiency.
Scientific Literacy: Equipping students with the ability to analyse data, evaluate evidence, and understand the scientific method as a tool for objective inquiry.
Curriculum Innovation: Linking classroom content to contemporary breakthroughs and Nottingham’s local scientific industries, from biotechnology to sustainable energy.
Exam Mastery: Guiding examination cohorts through AQA or Edexcel specifications, focusing on the mastery of "Required Practicals" and the application of mathematical skills within a scientific context.
STEM Advocacy: Coordinating extracurricular clubs, such as "Lego League" or "CREST Awards," and organising trips to local centres of excellence like BioCity or the University of Nottingham.
Why This School?
Nottingham’s Scientific Heritage: Work in a city defined by discovery, providing a rich landscape for industry partnerships and inspiring students toward careers in the UK’s thriving Science and Tech sectors.
Advanced Laboratory Facilities: Benefit from newly refurbished, specialist laboratories equipped with the latest data-logging technology and a highly experienced team of technicians.
Collaborative STEM Faculty: Join a forward-thinking department that prioritizes "co-planning" and the sharing of best practices to ensure a consistent, world-class Science education.
Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD through the STEM Learning network, Royal Society of Chemistry/Physics training, and clear pathways to Head of Science or Lead Practitioner roles.
Candidate Profile
Qualification: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a strong honours degree in a Science-related discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
Subject Knowledge: A broad understanding of the General Science curriculum at KS3/4 and deep subject expertise in your chosen specialism at KS5.
Pedagogy: A proven track record of securing strong outcomes and a commitment to "active" learning through practical work and high-level questioning.
Character: A resilient, organized, and passionate educator who can inspire a "sense of wonder" about the universe while maintaining a rigorous academic environment.
