History Teacher - Nottingham (Independent Senior School)

Marchant Recruitment
Nottingham

A well-established independent senior school in Nottingham is seeking a thoughtful and academically strong Teacher of History to join its successful Humanities department. This is a rewarding opportunity to teach History in a school that values intellectual curiosity, debate and independent thinking.

The school is known for its strong academic culture, excellent pastoral care and a calm, purposeful learning environment where pupils are encouraged to question, reflect and engage deeply with their subjects.

The Role

You will teach History across Key Stages 3–5 , including GCSE and A-Level. The department delivers a rigorous and well-sequenced curriculum that develops pupils’ historical knowledge, analytical skills and confidence in extended writing.

Lessons are discussion-rich and enquiry-led, encouraging students to engage critically with sources, interpretations and historical debates. At A-Level, pupils are supported to develop independent research skills and sophisticated argumentation, with strong outcomes year on year.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum planning and enrichment, shaping how the subject continues to develop.

The History Department

History is a popular subject within the school, with strong uptake at both GCSE and Sixth Form. The department is collaborative and academically ambitious, with staff who value shared planning, professional dialogue and subject scholarship.

Enrichment is purposeful and manageable, including lecture evenings, reading groups and visits to archives and museums. Staff are encouraged to contribute ideas while maintaining a sustainable workload.

The School Environment

Set within an attractive campus on the edge of Nottingham, the school offers a blend of traditional buildings and modern teaching spaces. Class sizes are small, behaviour is exemplary, and relationships between staff and pupils are built on respect and trust.

Pastoral care is a real strength, with a well-structured tutor system and strong communication between academic and pastoral teams.

Facilities and Resources

History teaching is supported by:

  • Dedicated Humanities classrooms

  • A well-stocked library and digital research resources

  • Quiet study spaces that support independent learning

Staff benefit from high-quality facilities, including communal working areas and on-site catering.

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

  • Hold QTS or equivalent

  • Have strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching A-Level

  • Enjoy academic discussion and debate

  • Be reflective, organised and collaborative

Independent sector experience is welcome but not essential.

Why Join This School?

  • Competitive salary and benefits

  • Small class sizes and motivated pupils

  • Collegiate, professional staff culture

  • Excellent facilities and resources

  • Strong focus on staff wellbeing and development

This is an excellent opportunity for a History Teacher looking to work in an academically rigorous and supportive independent school environment.
