Role Overview:

The Club is seeking a strong, dedicated, and driven MSc student. The successful candidate will engage in a placement, working as a Player Recruitment Analyst within the Recruitment department to support the work across the First Team.

The role will be varied and offer invaluable experience that will stand the successful candidate in great stead for a future career in professional football. In order to get the best from this opportunity, it is imperative that applicants can commit to the position for the entire 2026-27 season.

You will be based at the Nigel Doughty Training Ground and required to work a minimum of 25 hours per week. This internship opportunity will run from August 2026 to May 2027 (flexible start dates can be discussed to accommodate the start of the MSc program) and aims to upskill successful applicants in analysis session delivery, working with a variety of stakeholders and benchmarking, monitoring, and reviewing technical and tactical performance data

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To analyse video aligned to owned markets and produce written reports to aid player analysis to populate scouting lists and recommend target list options.

  • Maintain and develop key relationships with department members aligned to assigned markets to aid player identification and the scouting process within specific markets.

  • To aid in the production of player best practice videos and dossiers on target players to a high standard in line with department processes and team playing principles.

  • Analyse video footage in line with the Club’s key position metrics and position principles to help create playlists for recommended players.

  • Build experience in the use of data, video and general market research to aid the department in identifying and executing the most effective decisions for the football Club.

  • Maintain and update scouting and department databases in order to support the department leads to ensure all player Intel is available to enhance decision making, as well as to complete ad hoc duties as requested by department leads.

  • The opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into multiple processes at the elite end of professional football.

  • Coordinate the Scout Ticket Requests for Club Scouts for live match viewings

Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Undertaking a master’s level degree in a sports science related degree that permits a placement year.

  • Experience and/or an understanding of performance analysis in elite sport either through academic qualifications or first-hand experience.

  • Hardworking and proactive attitude with a desire to pursue a career in performance analysis or recruitment in professional football.

  • Excellent communication skills and a good team player who fits in with the values of the Club and the department.

  • Proactive attitude to find solutions and work under pressure.

  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks to a high standard of work.

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and drive to achieve department and Club objectives.

  • Self-motivated: Driven and able to work off own initiative as well as follow guidance and instruction.

  • Self-reflective: Ability to appraise his/her own performance to develop whilst also being receptive to feedback.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience of analysis tools.

  • Basic knowledge and experience of data and video analysis systems and their use to evaluate player performance such as Wyscout, Statsbomb and Tableau
