PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Forest Forces is Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s dedicated programme supporting members of the Armed Forces community, including veterans, serving personnel, and their families. The Forest Forces Coordinator will lead the proactive planning, delivery, development, and evaluation of all Forest Forces activities, ensuring the programme is impactful, inclusive, growth-oriented and aligned to the programme’s KPI’s and national veteran’s support frameworks. Passionate and knowledgeable about Armed Forces and Veteran support, the role also provides assistance to other Trust Health & Wellbeing programmes as required, with light line management duties of a Forest Forces Assistant.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Lead on-the-ground delivery of the Forest Forces programme, providing a blend of physical & mental wellbeing activity, trips, and events for military veterans across Nottingham City and County

  2. Engage in proactive partner and stakeholder engagement, including with veteran-centred NHS and Public Health sector organisations to meet audience/participant need and strengthen referral pathways to support mechanisms

  3. Work proactively and confidently with national veterans’ support frameworks, including Operation Valour, Operation Courage, and other Armed Forces Covenant initiatives

  4. Coordinate and facilitate the set-up of Forest Forces Hubs, utilising community spaces to enable the reach and engagement of priority veteran audiences

  5. Proactively liaise with NFCT internal stakeholders including Finance to ensure budgetary planning and alignment of programme operations, and Marketing to communicate and showcase programme information/success and grow participation/engagement

  6. Proactively connect and engage with statutory and non-statutory third-sector service providers, developing opportunities for partnership working and for services to collaborate with Hubs, particularly when there is latent demand/need for additional provision

  7. Continuously and proactively with work other internal and external stakeholders to grow the programme, improve its outcomes, and attain its KPI’s

  8. Lead efforts to secure ongoing funding for the Forest Forces programme, including identifying opportunities, writing bids, and cultivating relationships with funders

  9. Collate and organise a range of participant data through qualitative and quantitative measures, such as registers, surveys, case studies, and individual testimony from the Forest Forces programme

  10. Collate and maintain up-to-date programme data across monitoring systems, including ensuring all reporting deadlines are met

  11. Act as a positive role model and representative of NFCT, ensuring the same standards of other Forest Forces programme delivery staff

  12. Support other Health & Wellbeing programmes – including the incorporation of unique skills/knowledge/experiences into delivery – and support other Trust programme delivery where appropriate

  13. Uphold all Trust policies, maintain professional boundaries, be committed to the highest safeguarding standards and report concerns in accordance with procedure

  14. Be a positive role model for NFCT at all times, and champion its programmes and impact

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential for the role

· Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including local authority (NHS, public sector, third sector) collaboration, ideally in the context of Armed Forces/veteran support to strengthen support/referral pathways

· Excellent administrative and Microsoft Office skills

· Strong data literacy, including collation, presentation & reporting to demonstrate impact against KPI’s

· A holistic understanding of health & wellbeing community programmes and their determinants of engagement and success

· A strong community-orientation, with knowledge and experience of community delivery to affect positive outcomes, ideally in the context of Armed Forces/Veterans support

· Strong knowledge/experience of - and passion for - Armed Forces and veteran support, including a working knowledge of veteran charity & support pathways

· A continuous improvement and ‘big picture’ mindset, and ability to identify improvements for growth and target attainment

· Knowledge and awareness of safeguarding best practice

Desirable

· Knowledge and appreciation of the health & wellbeing and socioeconomic factors affecting the communities served by Nottingham Forest Community Trust

· A knowledge of trauma informed practice and physical/mental health & wellbeing

PERSONAL PROFILE

Bringing a diverse range of community skills, knowledge, and experiences, the role-holder must firstly have a strong commitment to, knowledge of, and passion for supporting military veterans and their families, including familiarity with military support charities and national initiatives such as Operation Valour, Operation Courage, and other relevant support pathways.

With excellent proactive planning and organisation skills, the role-holder will be an excellent communicator, community-oriented, and people-focused, whilst also being confident at proactively forming collaborative relationships with partners (NHS, Public Sector, third sector), strengthening referral pathways, and coordinating community programmes/hubs, ideally in an Armed Forces/veteran context.

The individual will leverage their proactive organisation skills combined with their understanding of supporting Armed Forces/veterans and their families, to coordinate the programme from end-to-end, including planning, session delivery, data collection & reporting, and partnering with stakeholders, thereby strengthening the programme’s growth & impact against its KPIs, and ultimately securing ongoing funding.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Completion of NFCT DBS & vetting checks including right-to-work and reference checks

2. Completion of all role-specific NFCT mandatory safeguarding checks

3. Willingness to work unsociable hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays

4. Driving license and access to own vehicle is preferred
