Teacher of History - Independent Senior School, Nottingham

Marchant Recruitment
Nottingham

A highly respected independent senior school in Nottingham is seeking a passionate and intellectually curious Teacher of History to join its established Humanities faculty. This is a superb opportunity to teach History in an academically rigorous environment where scholarship, debate and independent thinking are central to school life.

History is a popular subject at both GCSE and A-Level, with strong outcomes and students who genuinely enjoy the discipline.

The Opportunity

You will teach History across KS3–KS5 , delivering a curriculum that balances breadth with depth and encourages students to think critically about the past. Lessons focus on developing secure historical knowledge alongside the core skills of source analysis, interpretation and extended written argument.

At Sixth Form, students are confident, articulate and eager to engage with complex historical themes and historiography. Teachers are trusted to teach with autonomy, supported by a clear departmental framework and shared academic expectations.

The Humanities Faculty

The History department sits within a close-knit Humanities faculty that values professional dialogue and collaboration. Planning is thoughtful and purposeful, with shared resources that support consistency while allowing individual expertise to shine.

Enrichment is meaningful and manageable, including guest lectures, academic-style research tasks and visits to museums and archives. These opportunities are well supported by the school and seen as an integral part of the curriculum.

The School Environment

This independent school educates pupils aged 11–18 and is known for its calm, purposeful atmosphere and strong pastoral care. Class sizes are small, behaviour is excellent, and relationships between staff and pupils are warm and respectful.

The campus blends traditional buildings with modern teaching spaces, offering a professional and inspiring working environment. Staff retention is strong, and the culture is collegiate and supportive.

Professional Benefits

Staff benefit from:

  • Competitive independent-school salary

  • Small classes and highly motivated students

  • Free lunch during term time and on-site parking

  • Access to excellent CPD and subject development

  • Opportunities to contribute to wider academic life

  • A respectful, professional staff culture

Who This Role Would Suit

This position would suit:

  • An experienced History teacher

  • A confident ECT seeking an academically ambitious setting

  • A teacher passionate about historical scholarship

  • A professional who values autonomy within a supportive department

This is a rare opportunity to teach History in an independent school that truly values academic depth, professional trust and staff wellbeing.
