Teacher of Geography - Nottingham
A well-regarded 11–18 comprehensive school in Nottingham is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Geography to join its established Humanities faculty. The school has a strong academic profile and a reputation for steady improvement, underpinned by consistent behaviour systems and supportive leadership.
Geography is a popular subject choice at GCSE, with growing interest at A-Level. Students are engaged and respond well to lessons that connect global issues with local contexts — a strength of the department’s approach.
The Role
You will teach Geography across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to contribute to KS5 teaching depending on experience. The curriculum is knowledge-rich and carefully sequenced, with a clear balance between physical and human geography.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Delivering well-structured Geography lessons across KS3–KS4
• Preparing students effectively for GCSE examinations
• Embedding fieldwork and case study learning into schemes of work
• Contributing to departmental planning and assessment moderation
• Supporting enrichment activities such as local field trips and geography clubs
The department values real-world application and critical thinking, encouraging students to explore environmental, economic and social themes in depth.
The Geography Department
The Humanities faculty is stable and collaborative. Geography teachers work closely to ensure curriculum coherence, consistent assessment and shared resources.
Department strengths include:
• Strong GCSE outcomes
• Clearly sequenced curriculum and shared planning
• Structured internal moderation
• Fieldwork integrated into Key Stage 3 and GCSE provision
Students benefit from structured exam preparation alongside opportunities for discussion and debate around contemporary issues.
The School
This Nottingham secondary school serves a diverse and ambitious community. Behaviour systems are clear and consistently applied, creating calm, focused classrooms.
Leadership is approachable and supportive, with a strong emphasis on professional development. The school invests in subject-specific CPD and provides mentoring opportunities for staff at all stages of their careers.
Facilities include:
• Modern Humanities classrooms
• Interactive classroom technology
• Dedicated Sixth Form spaces
• A structured pastoral support system
Staff describe the culture as professional, collaborative and improvement-driven.
Who We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will:
• Hold QTS and a degree in Geography or a related field
• Demonstrate secure subject knowledge across KS3–KS4
• Be confident in managing behaviour and maintaining high expectations
• Show enthusiasm for fieldwork and enrichment
• Contribute positively to faculty collaboration
Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers and strong early career teachers.
What’s On Offer
• A stable and supportive Nottingham secondary school
• A well-organised Humanities faculty
• Clear behaviour systems and strong pastoral care
• Professional development opportunities
• A collaborative and forward-looking working environment
This is an excellent opportunity for a Geography specialist looking to join a well-led and ambitious school in Nottingham.
