Science Technician - Nottingham
A forward-thinking secondary school in Nottingham is seeking a dependable Science Technician to support practical science teaching from January 2026. The Science Technician will prepare experiments, maintain and clean laboratory apparatus, manage consumables and ensure health & safety compliance for all science activities. This Science Technician post in Nottingham will start January 2026, with induction and handover meetings arranged before January 2026.

The Science Technician will keep inventory records, assist with equipment checks, support safe storage and disposal of chemicals, and ensure that practical lessons are well-resourced. The successful Science Technician will be methodical, health-and-safety focused and able to work with a range of teaching styles across Nottingham.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, set up and clear laboratory practicals and demonstrations in accordance with teachers’ specifications.
- Maintain stock records, order consumables and ensure appropriate storage of chemicals and materials.
- Support maintenance and basic calibration of lab equipment and report more complex faults.
- Keep safety documentation current, assist with risk assessments and contribute to any audit requirements.
- Provide practical support to staff and, where appropriate, supervise safe handling practices during lessons.
Person specification
- Prior experience in a laboratory or school technician role; confident with workshop or lab apparatus.
- Knowledgeable about COSHH, risk assessments and basic lab maintenance.
- Organised, dependable and able to prioritise tasks across a busy science timetable in Nottingham.
- Good team player with clear communication skills for working with staff, pupils and external suppliers.
- Able to start January 2026 and to take part in pre-term induction before January 2026.
