ECT - Teacher of Drama - Secondary Academy - Nottingham,...

Marchant Recruitment
Nottingham

A vibrant and inclusive 11–18 academy in Nottingham is seeking a creative and confident Early Career Teacher of Drama to join its successful Performing Arts faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified teacher to begin their career in a school that genuinely values the arts and provides strong professional support for early career staff.

The School

Located within easy reach of central Nottingham, this large secondary academy serves a diverse and aspirational community. The school has developed a strong reputation for its creative curriculum, improving GCSE outcomes and well-structured pastoral systems.

Behaviour systems are clear and consistently applied, creating calm corridors and purposeful learning environments. Leadership is highly supportive of ECTs, with a structured induction programme and a culture of open-door coaching.

Recent investment has enhanced:

  • A dedicated performing arts block

  • A multi-purpose theatre space used for productions and assemblies

  • Specialist rehearsal rooms

  • Updated lighting and sound equipment

The Performing Arts Department

Drama is a popular subject at both KS3 and KS4, with a strong uptake at GCSE. The department delivers a balanced curriculum combining practical performance work, scripted analysis and devising.

As an ECT, you will benefit from:

  • Shared schemes of work and assessment frameworks

  • Support with planning larger productions

  • Clear guidance on exam preparation and coursework moderation

  • Collaborative planning meetings within the Performing Arts team

The department runs annual productions, showcases and performance evenings, which are well attended by families and the wider community.

The Role

You will teach Drama across Key Stages 3 and 4, with structured support throughout your induction year. Your timetable will be carefully balanced, and you will receive:

  • A dedicated subject mentor

  • Reduced teaching hours in line with ECT entitlement

  • Weekly coaching sessions

  • Opportunities to observe experienced practitioners

The school encourages creativity but within clear behavioural and curriculum frameworks, helping ECTs build confidence steadily.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS and a relevant Drama qualification

  • Be confident delivering practical lessons safely and effectively

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management

  • Be enthusiastic about productions and enrichment

  • Be reflective and keen to develop professionally

Why Join This School?

  • Excellent induction and mentoring programme

  • Strong facilities and performance spaces

  • Supportive senior leadership

  • Clear behaviour systems

  • A creative and collaborative staff culture

This is an outstanding opportunity for a Drama ECT who wants to grow in a well-supported, arts-valuing secondary academy.
